How does CoolSculpting® work?
CoolSculpting® is based on cryolipolysis (cold lipolysis), the use of precisely controlled cooling to remove fat. This concept follows the scientific principal that fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the overlying skin and surrounding tissue. As cooling is directed into the targeted fat pockets, the fat cells freeze and are eliminated over time through natural body processes. Patients begin to see results in as little as three weeks after their CoolSculpting® session, but the most dramatic results occur two to four months afterwards. The process continues to remove the fat cells for up to six months.
What happens during a CoolSculpting® Session?
During the procedure, Dr. Greenberg positions the CoolSculpting® device on the target area. The device then draws up the skin between two cooling panels. The patient feels a firm pulling with some pressure. For the first few minutes, there is a feeling of fairly intense cold, but this passes and the patient can take a nap, read, or work on a laptop during their treatment. Treatments depend on the area being treated, but usually take around one hour.
CoolSculpting® is approved by the FDA and is proven to be safe and effective. Most patients can return to work or other activities immediately following their session.
